Lachlan Lam Emerging as Coveted Target for NRL Clubs After Standout Season with Leigh Leopards
Lachlan Lam’s impressive performances for the Leigh Leopards have caught the attention of multiple clubs, with the talented playmaker firmly on the radar of several NRL teams. Since joining the Leopards in 2022, Lam has been instrumental in the club’s success, leading them to promotion and a historic Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley last August.
Lam’s heroics at Wembley included scoring the winning drop goal to secure the Cup for the Leopards over Hull KR, earning him the prestigious Lance Todd Trophy as the Man of the Match. This standout display has only heightened the interest in the former Sydney Roosters player, as a significant player turnover continues at the Leigh Sports Village.
“Lam’s talent and potential have not gone unnoticed, with several NRL clubs said to have the financial resources to lure the Papua New Guinea international back to Australia.”
While Leigh captain John Asiata has agreed to join Hull FC next season, and reports suggest Oliver Holmes and Zak Hardaker may follow suit, Lam’s situation is different. The 26-year-old is under contract with the Leopards until the end of 2025, having signed a new deal prior to the Challenge Cup Final. This means any club interested in Lam would need to negotiate a transfer fee with Leigh owner Derek Beaumont and head coach Adrian Lam, who is Lachlan’s father.
NRL Clubs Vying for Lam’s Signature
According to Zero Tackle, the Canterbury Bulldogs and Gold Coast Titans are currently leading the race for Lam’s signature, as they seek to bolster their half-back options. Prior to his successful stint in the Betfred Super League, Lam made 31 appearances for the Roosters in the NRL between 2019 and 2021. While he was the club’s first-choice stand-off in his final year, he eventually fell down the pecking order. However, his impressive performances and valuable big-game experience gained with the Leopards have likely enhanced his stock, making it increasingly challenging for Leigh to retain their star player if a lucrative offer from the NRL materializes.
