Rugby Legend Kevin Sinfield Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Former Teammate Rob Burrow
The rugby league community is mourning the loss of a true icon, as former Leeds Rhinos player Rob Burrow sadly passed away following his courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In a poignant tribute, Burrow’s longtime teammate and close friend, Kevin Sinfield, has shared his heartfelt reflections on the life and legacy of this remarkable man.
Sinfield, who stood beside Burrow when he first announced his MND diagnosis in 2019, has been a steadfast pillar of support throughout his friend’s four-and-a-half-year journey. Together, the pair forged an unbreakable bond, having won seven Grand Finals as teammates for the Leeds Rhinos before Burrow went on to claim an eighth triumph without his partner in crime.
“Today was the day that I hoped would never come,” Sinfield said in his statement. “The world has lost a great man and a wonderful friend to so many.”
Reflecting on Burrow’s unwavering courage and resilience, Sinfield praised his “little mate” for becoming “a beacon of hope and inspiration, not only for the MND community but for all those who saw and heard your story.”
Sinfield’s admiration for Burrow’s strength in the face of adversity was palpant, as he described him as “the toughest and bravest man I ever met.” Through his continued fundraising and awareness-raising efforts, Sinfield ensured that Burrow’s legacy would live on, generating millions in support of the MND community.
“You will continue to inspire me every single day,” Sinfield concluded. “I have lost a dear friend, and I will never forget the special times we shared both on and off the pitch. I will miss you, my little mate. All my love, Kev X.”
