Wigan Warriors Starlet Junior Nsemba Set for Wembley Debut at 19
On Saturday, 19-year-old Junior Nsemba will grace the hallowed Wembley turf as Wigan Warriors face local rivals Warrington Wolves in the Challenge Cup final. This will mark the young back-rower’s first major final appearance with his hometown club.
Nsemba, who has made 27 appearances for the Warriors since his debut in 2022, has been a standout performer this season, filling in admirably for the injured club stalwart Willie Isa. The rising star credits Isa as a mentor, stating, “> He is like a mentor to me, he’s always guiding me on what the right things are and what to do.”
With around 20 of his nearest and dearest securing tickets to witness his Wembley debut, Nsemba is understandably elated. “Wembley is not a small thing, is it? It’s the first time for me getting there,” he told Love Rugby League. “Obviously everything I do right now is for my mum and dad. They are a big part of my life, they’ve done a lot for me so I’m just trying to give back to them really.”
Nsemba, who is of Cameroonian heritage, also harbors ambitions to represent England, the country where he was born and raised. While he has been tipped as a potential bolter for Shaun Wane’s national team, the young forward is focused on delivering his best performances for Wigan in the Challenge Cup final.
“Obviously it would be a big achievement playing for England but I’m just trying to do my job on the pitch right now to show Waney what he is looking for really, so I’m just going to keep trying on the pitch,” he said.
As Wigan Warriors take on Warrington Wolves at the iconic Wembley Stadium next weekend, all eyes will be on the talented Junior Nsemba and his remarkable journey from the academy ranks to the grandest stage in rugby league.
