Experienced Australian Coach John Cartwright Set to Take Over at Hull FC in 2025
According to reports emerging from Australia overnight, John Cartwright will take over as Hull FC’s new head coach in 2025. The Black and Whites had been searching for a British replacement for Tony Smith, who is set to depart the club at the end of the current season.
The initial approach was made to Salford’s Paul Rowley, who ultimately turned down the offer. Hull then shifted their focus to Adrian Lam, but the former Wigan Warriors boss signed a long-term contract extension with Leigh Leopards before they could secure his services.
Widening their search to both sides of the world, Hull have now settled on Cartwright as the man to lead the club from the start of the 2025 campaign. The Courier Mail, an Australian publication, has reported that the deal is done, and the former Gold Coast Titans coach will officially take the reins at the MKM Stadium next season.
Cartwright, who is currently an assistant coach at NRL powerhouse Brisbane Broncos, will leave that position to take on the significant task of reviving Hull FC’s fortunes after another disappointing year. In the interim, Simon Grix will remain in charge of the team, having taken over following Smith’s departure six weeks ago.
After a prolonged and extensive search, Hull appear to have finally found their long-term replacement for Tony Smith, securing the services of the experienced and highly-regarded Australian coach, John Cartwright.
