Rugby League Standout Jake Connor Available for Short-Term Loan
Huddersfield Giants’ star player Jake Connor has been made available for a potential short-term loan deal to rival Super League clubs, according to Love Rugby League’s latest report.
Connor, one of the biggest names in the Super League, has been a regular fixture for the Giants in the early stages of the season. However, in recent weeks, he appears to have fallen down the team’s pecking order. He was dropped from the squad for their match against Leigh Leopards last month, and while he returned to the team to face Hull FC a fortnight ago, he was only named on the bench rather than starting at fullback.
Now, Love Rugby League has learned that Super League clubs have been contacted about the possibility of taking Connor on a two-week loan deal, as Huddersfield Giants head coach Ian Watson looks to get the team’s season back on track.
With Connor’s absence, Watson opted to start Tui Lolohea at fullback against Hull FC, and Oliver Russell was drafted into the halves alongside Adam Clune. Interestingly, Russell had been the player rumored to be in line for a short-term loan deal in recent weeks, but his return to the side has seemingly pushed Connor out of contention.
Connor re-joined Huddersfield at the start of last season on a lucrative deal, and he is only halfway through the three-year contract he signed to return to the John Smith’s Stadium. Sources have told Love Rugby League that there is no suggestion at this time that the club is looking to permanently part ways with the talented player, who has shown flashes of his best form throughout the season.
However, the short-term loan deal is being considered as Watson explores different options to bolster the team’s attacking output in the coming weeks.
