Rugby League Disciplinary Drama: Hull KR Appeal Rejected
In the latest Super League disciplinary saga, the Operational Rules Tribunal has upheld the one-match ban imposed on Hull KR forward Sauaso Sue following a dangerous tackle in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals against Leigh Leopards.
The incident occurred midway through the second half of the Robins’ 26-14 victory, with referee Chris Kendall penalizing Sue for a late hit on Leigh’s Tom Amone. The tackle, which can be reviewed by fans on BBC iPlayer, was deemed a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge, resulting in a one-match Penalty Notice.
“Hull KR had appealed the decision, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. The club has now confirmed that Sue’s suspension will stand, meaning he will miss the team’s upcoming trip to face Catalans Dragons in Super League action.”
The Tribunal also addressed two other disciplinary cases from the weekend’s fixtures. Catalans’ Bayley Sironen was given a Grade E Head Contact charge, which carries a three-to-five game ban, while Castleford Tigers’ Sylvester Namo faced a Grade F Dangerous Contact charge, potentially resulting in a six-game or longer suspension. Both of these charges were automatically referred to the Tribunal.
The latest ruling adds to the ongoing disciplinary drama within Super League, as clubs and players continue to navigate the complex and at times contentious rulebook. Rugby league enthusiasts will surely be closely following the developments as the season progresses and the race for playoff positions heats up.
