Hull KR Bolster Halves with Castleford’s Danny Richardson on Loan
The Rugby League landscape has seen a significant shift, as Hull KR have secured the services of Castleford Tigers scrum-half Danny Richardson on a season-long loan deal. This move comes in the wake of Ben Reynolds’ departure, who has joined city rivals Hull FC on loan until the end of the 2024 campaign.
Richardson, who has made four appearances for Castleford this season after missing the entire 2023 season due to injury, will bring valuable experience and quality depth to the Robins’ halves. The Widnes native has been with the Tigers since 2020, making 50 appearances for the club, and previously spent three seasons with St Helens, where he was part of the squad that won the 2019 Super League title.
In a statement on the Hull KR website, the club expressed its excitement about the arrival of Richardson, stating that he will “add quality depth to the Robins’ halves and bring strong competition to Tyrone May and Mikey Lewis.“
The past few seasons have been challenging for Richardson, who faced an 18-month layoff due to a torn ACL and MCL. However, the 27-year-old has shown glimpses of his undoubted talent this season, and under the guidance of Hull KR’s talented Australian coach, Willie Peters, he will be hoping to regain the form that made him a key player during his time at St Helens.

With Rovers fancied to challenge the likes of Wigan Warriors and St Helens for silverware this season, Richardson’s addition will undoubtedly strengthen their squad and provide valuable depth in the halves. As he looks to get back to full fitness and recapture his sharp edge, the scrum-half will have the opportunity to prove his worth and cement a place in the team.
