Serious Incident Reported After Hull KR vs. St Helens Match
The Rugby Football League (RFL) will be investigating both Hull KR and St Helens after footage emerged of fans from the two sides clashing following their match on Saturday. The game itself was an exciting affair, with Hull KR securing a comfortable 40-20 victory over the reigning champions, cementing their status as serious title contenders this season.
The Craven Park faithful played a significant role in the home side’s impressive win, with the passionate crowd creating a lively atmosphere and even challenging the match officials at times. Hull KR have established their home ground as a fortress this season, with the narrow defeat to Warrington Wolves being the only blemish on an otherwise perfect record.
However, the post-match events cast a shadow over the victory, as footage showed a group of approximately 40 fans from both sides clashing, with stewards having to intervene to separate them. Pints and vapes were reportedly thrown during the altercation, which the RFL has described as “disturbing.”
“The scenes witnessed at Craven Park were in stark contrast to the high priorities placed on community, family, and respect within rugby league.”
The governing body has confirmed that they will be contacting both clubs to gather observations, in addition to considering the usual reports. This comes just a day after the RFL sanctioned both St Helens and Leigh Leopards for an incident involving a coaching staff member back in May, emphasizing the league’s commitment to maintaining discipline and respect within the sport.
The RFL’s investigation will aim to address this incident and ensure that such behavior is not repeated, preserving the positive image of the sport.
