Poaching from Leigh Leopards: Hull FC Secure Second-Rower Oliver Holmes for 2025
In a move that continues to strengthen their squad, Hull FC have reportedly acquired the services of second-rower Oliver Holmes from Leigh Leopards for the 2025 season. This latest signing follows the recent captures of Leigh captain John Asiata and Tom Briscoe, as Hull FC Director of Rugby Richie Myler continues to bolster his team’s roster.
The 30-year-old Holmes, who enjoyed a standout debut season with Leigh, helping the club secure the Challenge Cup title last year, brings a wealth of top-level experience to the MKM Stadium. With over 250 career appearances under his belt since his Castleford Tigers debut in 2010, Holmes is set to provide valuable leadership and stability to a Hull FC side looking to bounce back from a mentally fragile campaign.
“This latest acquisition follows reports that Hull FC had previously attempted to secure Holmes on loan for the current season, only to be rebuffed by Leigh. Now, the Black and Whites have managed to secure the signature of the England Knights forward for the 2025 campaign, continuing their strategy of bringing in experienced players to complement their squad.”
The signing of Holmes, who will join current Leigh captain Asiata at Hull FC next season, is the third player the Airlie Birds have recruited from the Leopards since Myler’s appointment. This has not gone unnoticed by Leigh owner Derek Beaumont, who has previously expressed concerns over the manner in which Hull announced Asiata’s move and the financial implications involved.
With Holmes’ contract at Leigh set to expire, the Leopards may have had limited options in preventing his departure to the MKM Stadium. However, Beaumont’s comments suggest a degree of frustration with Hull’s transfer approach, which has now seen three of Leigh’s key players join the Airlie Birds for the 2025 season.
As Hull FC continue their squad rebuild under Richie Myler, the addition of the experienced and versatile Holmes represents another significant piece in their plans for the future. The Black and Whites will be hoping that this latest acquisition, along with their other recent signings, will help propel the club back to the upper echelons of the Super League table.
