Hull FC Signs John Asiata as Leigh Leopards Captain for 2025 Season

Rugby League: Hull FC Sign Leigh Leopards Captain John Asiata

Bolstering their squad for the 2025 season, Hull FC have secured the services of Leigh Leopards captain John Asiata. The former North Queensland Cowboys loose forward has signed a three-year deal with the Black & Whites, reportedly earning £220,000 per year.

Significant Acquisition for Hull FC

This significant acquisition is the latest move by Hull’s new Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, who has already orchestrated the return of Tom Briscoe to the MKM Stadium for the current and next campaigns.

Asiata’s arrival is a clear statement of intent from Hull FC. The 31-year-old has been a revelation since joining Leigh in 2022, leading the club to promotion to Super League and Challenge Cup glory at Wembley last August.

With 60 appearances for the Leopards, Asiata is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in the league and was even linked with a return to the NRL prior to agreeing this lucrative deal.

Ambitious Recruitment Strategy

The signing of Asiata, along with the previous recruitments of Ed Chamberlain and Briscoe, underscores Hull FC’s ambition and will be a positive signal for any incoming head coach interested in the vacant position at the Airlie Birds.

Asiata’s impressive resume includes winning the NRL Grand Final with the Cowboys in 2015 and the World Club Challenge against Leeds Rhinos the following season. He has also represented Samoa at the international level.

After a superb 2023 season that saw him named Leigh’s Player of the Year, Asiata will now look to bring his wealth of experience and quality to Hull FC, as the club prepares for a new era under Myler’s leadership.
