Hull FC Appoints Former Player Richie Myler as New Director of Rugby
In a significant move, Hull FC have announced the appointment of ex-Leeds Rhinos player Richie Myler as their new Director of Rugby. The announcement comes after the club’s chairman, Adam Pearson, confirmed the club’s intention to fill this crucial position, which will oversee the search for a new head coach following Tony Smith’s recent departure.
Myler, an experienced Irish international, has decided to hang up his boots after a brief stint with the York Knights, marking the end of his playing career. The 32-year-old will now transition into a new role, tasked with overseeing all on-field performance aspects of Hull FC’s senior and academy teams, including rugby operations, recruitment, and the management of the club’s coaching staff.
In a statement released by the club, Myler expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Rugby League has been my life since being four-years old, however, with a few unfortunate injuries in the last nine months and the sudden opportunity that has arisen to work with Adam Pearson at Hull FC is simply an opportunity too exciting to turn down.“
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Myler emphasized the need to develop and retain the club’s promising young players, as well as the importance of adding more experienced talent to the squad. He also shared his excitement about the task at hand, stating, “The word rebuild has been mentioned to me over the last few days and whilst I understand the task in front of us I’m already tired of that phrase. We all look to pull together and once again seek to restore the club’s fortunes on the pitch.“
Chairman Adam Pearson expressed his confidence in Myler’s appointment, highlighting the former player’s “vast experience” and “clear hunger and ambition to be successful in his new off-field career.“
As Hull FC embarks on a new chapter, the appointment of Richie Myler as Director of Rugby will be crucial in shaping the club’s future and guiding them towards a renewed era of success on the rugby league field.
