Hull FC Monitoring Cade Cust’s Situation at Salford Red Devils Ahead of Potential 2025 Move
Hull FC Eyeing Experienced Playmaker Cade Cust
Hull FC are closely following the situation surrounding Cade Cust at Salford Red Devils, with the possibility of making a move for the half-back during the 2025 rugby league season, according to Love Rugby League’s sources.
Cust, the Australian playmaker, signed a one-year deal with the Red Devils at the start of the current campaign, which includes an option for a contract extension by an additional year. However, that extension clause is yet to be triggered by Salford.
Currently sidelined with a calf injury, Cust has been absent as Salford have continued their climb up the table and firmly established themselves in the 2024 play-off picture. He is expected to return to action in the coming weeks.
With Cust’s long-term future at Salford uncertain, Hull have identified the half-back as a potential target to bolster their halves department. While Cust would likely provide depth and options, rather than being a guaranteed starter alongside Jake Trueman, he is a player the Black and Whites have given serious consideration to as they look to overhaul their squad ahead of new head coach John Cartwright’s arrival.
Cartwright’s Prior Experience with Cust
Cartwright, who is set to take charge at Hull, has prior experience working with Cust during their time together at NRL club Manly Sea Eagles, where the playmaker made his breakthrough appearances in 2019.
After leaving Australia in 2022, Cust spent two successful seasons with Wigan Warriors, winning the Challenge Cup in 2022 and the Super League title in 2023, although he did not feature in the Grand Final triumph over Catalans Dragons.
Salford Seek New Half-Back Partner for Sneyd
Salford remain active in the market for a new half-back to potentially partner Marc Sneyd next year, with Wests Tigers’ Jayden Sullivan being linked to the club, although his future in Australia remains uncertain.
As for Cust, it appears a move to Hull FC is inching closer, with the Black and Whites’ hierarchy having held extensive discussions about bringing the experienced playmaker to the MKM Stadium for the 2025 rugby league season.
