Rugby League News: Huddersfield Giants Star Esan Marsters Faces Setback Ahead of Salford Red Devils Move
Huddersfield Giants’ rugby league star Esan Marsters is set to miss a significant number of games due to a new injury concern, dampening his prospects of making a significant impact before his impending move to the Salford Red Devils.
The Cook Islands and New Zealand representative has been one of the standout centres in the Super League this season, despite Huddersfield Giants’ overall struggles. Marsters, who joined the club from the Gold Coast Titans ahead of the 2023 campaign, has been a consistent performer, missing just one game and scoring six tries so far.
However, in a recent press conference, Huddersfield Giants head coach Ian Watson revealed that Marsters is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The 26-year-old has suffered a meniscus and MCL-type injury, which could keep him out for up to eight weeks as he recovers in a brace.
“This news comes as a significant blow to the Giants, who are still fighting to regain a place in the playoff spots. Marsters’ absence will be felt, as he joins Ashton Golding, Sam Hewitt and Adam Swift on the injury list. Watson also mentioned a ‘last-minute call’ regarding another player’s fitness following their recent defeat to Catalans.”
Esan Marsters’ impending move to the Salford Red Devils on a three-year deal was already a major disappointment for the Huddersfield Giants. This latest injury setback further complicates the situation, as the team will have to navigate the remainder of the season without one of their star players.
