Huddersfield Giants Coach Ian Watson Provides Injury Update Ahead of Wigan Warriors Clash
Huddersfield Giants coach Ian Watson has offered an update on the fitness of in-form winger Adam Swift, who will miss Saturday’s Super League fixture against Wigan Warriors.
Swift, the Super League Player of the Month for April, sustained a minor groin injury during last week’s narrow 18-16 defeat to Salford Red Devils. The 31-year-old will sit out the clash with Wigan at the John Smith’s Stadium, but Watson is hopeful he will be available for next week’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington Wolves.
“He just got a little niggle so we’re just looking after him a bit,” Watson explained. “Hopefully it’s nothing major, he had a scan the other day and there’s just something small in there so we just need to be careful with him as we go forward and hopefully he comes through for next week.”
The Giants will welcome back back-rower Sam Hewitt, who recently signed a new three-year deal, as well as veteran centre Leroy Cudjoe for the Wigan game. Off-season recruit Andre Savelio could also make his debut for the club.
However, Huddersfield will continue to be without influential prop Chris Hill and back-rower Jack Murchie due to injury, and Watson is uncertain if the duo will be fit in time for the Challenge Cup semi-final.
“I’d be crystal ball gazing if I said yes or no, I’m not sure,” Watson said when asked about Hill and Murchie’s potential return against Warrington. “We’ve got a couple of players back this week and that’s where we are at, whether they get back or not we’ll see.”
