Huddersfield Giants to Miss Key Player Adam Clune for Four Weeks
Huddersfield Giants will be without their star Australian half-back Adam Clune for approximately four weeks due to a calf injury, interim coach Luke Robinson has confirmed.
Clune was a notable absentee from the teamsheet in Huddersfield’s 28-14 defeat to Wigan Warriors on Thursday night. During his post-match press conference, Robinson provided an update on Clune’s injury, stating, “> It looks like he’s going to be about four weeks.”
The Giants’ interim coach also revealed that the team has several other key players sidelined for the rest of the season, including Adam Swift, Jack Murchie, Joe Greenwood, and Olly Wilson. However, Robinson remains optimistic about the opportunity to showcase some of the club’s younger talents.
“I think we’ve got eight or nine out for the season, whether we have some opportunity to play some younger lads and give them an opportunity to see if they can play at this level, but I’ve got to be very conscious as well to not throw too many in at once,” Robinson said.
Homegrown talent Olly Russell was the man tasked with replacing Clune in the halves against Wigan, earning praise from his coach. Robinson highlighted Russell’s tenacious defense, toughness, and impressive kicking game, although he noted that a tight hamstring may have hampered the young playmaker’s performance.
Despite the injury setbacks, Huddersfield Giants will be looking to bounce back and continue their push for a strong finish in the 2023 rugby league season.
