Goole Vikings Sign England Academy Star Joe Phillips as 18th Off-season Addition

Ambitious League 1 Outfit Goole Vikings Secure 18th Off-season Signing with England Academy Star Joe Phillips

Goole, [Current Date] – Goole Vikings, an ambitious outfit in the League 1 competition, have added another highly-regarded player to their squad with the signing of England Academy international Joe Phillips. The 18-year-old prop, who previously featured for Leeds Rhinos and represented England Academy and Yorkshire in the Academy Origin series, has joined Scott Taylor’s side for the 2025 season.

Commenting on the signing, Goole head coach Scott Taylor expressed his delight, stating, “> Joe is a fantastic addition to our squad. He is held in regard at Leeds and by a number of people we have spoken to around the game, with the potential to be a very promising homegrown front rower.”

Taylor added that he looks forward to working with Phillips on the areas of his game that require development, drawing on his own experience as a former front rower.

The former Hull FC man revealed that Phillips had the option to stay with the Rhinos for 2025 but opted to join the project at Goole instead. “> He had options to stay at Leeds, as well as other clubs in higher divisions than us,” said Taylor. “But he has fully bought into what we are trying to do at the Vikings and the opportunity for him to play regularly and develop in our system – which I think speaks volumes for his character at a young age.”

Expressing his excitement about the move, Phillips said, “> I’m very excited to get started at the Vikings in preparation for the upcoming season. The club has recruited well, in terms of both players and backroom staff.” He further added, “> After speaking to both James and Scott, and seeing what direction Goole is heading, it was a no-brainer for me to take this opportunity.”

This latest signing marks the 18th new addition to the Goole Vikings squad during the off-season, as the club looks to bolster its ranks and make a strong push in the League 1 competition for the 2025 campaign.
