In a significant development, the League 1 club North Wales Crusaders has confirmed it will be taken over by a United Arab Emirates-based company, ‘Elkaleh LLC,’ subject to approval from the Rugby Football League (RFL).

Dubai-based Cryptocurrency Business Acquires North Wales Crusaders

The Dubai-based cryptocurrency business is owned by former Hull KR Performance Coach, Jamie El-Kaleh, who has also held roles with Salford Red Devils and Widnes Vikings, working as one of Tim Sheens’ right-hand men. El-Kaleh, who has Egyptian heritage, brings a wealth of rugby league experience to the table, having previously been associated with Warrington Wolves and the RFL itself, where he served as the ‘Talent Inclusion Officer’ in 2021.

In the club’s official press release, El-Kaleh expressed his pride in the acquisition, stating, “The beauty of North Wales Crusaders lies in its rich history, compelling story, and the passionate fans who form its heart. My ambition is to elevate North Wales Crusaders and achieve that by strengthening our connection with North Wales as well as significant rebuilding efforts.”

He further outlined his plans for the club, emphasizing the importance of incoming investment and sponsorship to fuel their push for success. Upon approval from the RFL, the new owner plans to hold a fans forum and establish stronger partnerships with local communities and the wider rugby league landscape.

“Together, we can make this happen,” he concluded.

The Crusaders, who have been under the North Wales banner since their liquidation and re-formation in 2011, currently sit 7th in the nine-team League 1 competition. Since their re-establishment, the club has never played higher than the Championship, with a sole season in the second tier back in 2014.
