Experienced Prop Albert Vete to Depart Castleford Tigers and Return Home to New Zealand
In a move that will see him head back to his native New Zealand, it has been confirmed that 31-year-old prop Albert Vete is set to leave Castleford Tigers. The former Tonga international, who made two international appearances in 2015, has accumulated 52 appearances during his time in the British game.
Vete, who joined Castleford on a two-year deal ahead of last season, has struggled to cement a regular place in the Tigers’ lineup, featuring in just 10 matches over the past 18 months. With the club looking to bring in new overseas talent, the decision was made to release Vete from his contract, allowing him to return home.
“Vete’s journey in the British game saw him make over 50 appearances at the top level, having previously amassed more than 100 first-grade games during his time in the Australian NRL with the New Zealand Warriors and Melbourne Storm.”
Prior to his stint at Castleford, the experienced forward had enjoyed spells with:
- Hull KR
- Featherstone Rovers
- Doncaster, the latter of whom he helped secure promotion from League 1 via the playoffs last year.
Doncaster RLFC have now confirmed that Vete will be leading the teams out in their upcoming Championship fixture against Dewsbury Rams, as they bid farewell to the departing prop.
The veteran’s next move remains uncertain, but his experience and leadership will be missed by the clubs he has represented in the UK.
