Super League Clubs on Alert as George King’s Services Offered
In a significant development, Love Rugby League has learned that Hull KR forward George King’s services have been offered to several Super League clubs. This comes despite the fact that King is currently under contract with the Robins until the end of the 2027 season, having only recently signed a long-term extension with the club last July.
However, King’s future at Hull KR beyond the current year has now been called into question. Love Rugby League has been informed that multiple top-flight teams have been alerted to the potential availability of the Ireland international by his management team. While a departure is far from certain, the acquisition of King would undoubtedly be a major coup for any club that manages to secure his services.
King has become an integral part of the Rovers squad in recent years, particularly since the arrival of head coach Willie Peters. The 24-year-old featured in Hull KR’s first five Super League matches of 2024 before a hamstring injury sidelined him for several weeks. However, he has since returned to action, including last weekend’s trip to face Catalans Dragons.
“Since joining the club late in the 2020 season from Wakefield Trinity, King has made close to 100 appearances for Hull KR. Last year, he featured in 30 games across all competitions as the Robins reached both the Super League play-offs and the Challenge Cup final. He has continued to be a regular fixture in the side when fit and available this season.”
Despite King’s importance to the team, it remains to be seen whether Hull KR would be willing to let the Ireland international depart. The club has already confirmed the signing of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves from the NRL’s Sydney Roosters for 2025, while other key forwards such as Sauaso Sue and Sam Luckley are also under contract for the 2024 campaign.
