Dean Whare Signs with Glebe Dirty Reds in NSW Rugby League

Former Catalans Dragons and London Broncos Centre Signs for New Club

Former Catalans Dragons and London Broncos centre Dean Whare has signed for a new club, returning to Australia just two years after leaving Super League. A starter in the 2013 World Cup Final for New Zealand, Whare spent a decade playing in the NRL with Manly Sea Eagles and Penrith Panthers before heading to Super League.

Whare was a key member of the Dragons side that made it to the 2021 Grand Final, scoring crucial home and away tries against St Helens along the way. However, a significant pectoral injury in 2022 limited his playing time, and he ultimately left the club to join Pia Donkeys in France.

“Whare brings huge experience and was all class in his debut, which saw the team secure a 24-20 win over Ryde.”

His return to England midway through the 2023 season was a success, as he scored 12 tries in 13 games for the promoted London Broncos. Despite this, he again headed to France to rejoin Pia Donkeys.

This week, it was announced that Whare has now signed for the Glebe Dirty Reds in the New South Wales competition. The Dirty Reds, who were the first-ever Sydney rugby league club, revealed on Twitter that Whare “brings huge experience” and was “all class” in his debut, which saw the team secure a 24-20 win over Ryde.

The Dirty Reds currently sit third in the Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield competitions, two points behind the league leaders. This Saturday, they will face off against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, who also field a team in the Ron Massey Cup.
