Danny McGuire Distances Himself from Hull FC Head Coaching Role
In a recent interview, rugby league legend Danny McGuire has distanced himself from the vacant head coaching position at Hull FC. Despite speculation linking him to the role, McGuire insists he has had no dialogue with the club’s director of rugby, Richie Myler, regarding the job.
Since retiring from the sport, McGuire has made no secret of his desire to become a head coach in the future. He has gained experience as an assistant coach at both Hull KR and Castleford Tigers, where he currently works under Craig Lingard.
With Myler expressing a preference for a British coach with extensive Super League experience, McGuire’s name was among the many to be linked to the Hull FC vacancy. However, the former Leeds Rhinos star believes the role is not the right fit for him at this stage of his career.
Firstly, McGuire doesn’t feel he is ready to take on a head coaching position just yet. Additionally, his previous affiliation with Hull KR as both a player and a coach would effectively rule him out of consideration for the role at their cross-city rivals.
“I’ve still got lots of desire (to become a head coach), but not quite ready for it yet. I’ve lots of respect for Hull FC, but there’s been no dialogue and once you’ve spent time in rugby league in Hull you’re one or the other, and I’m red and white.”
The search for Hull FC’s next head coach continues, with speculation linking Leigh Leopards’ Adrian Lam and other names to the position. Myler has indicated that he is in no rush to make a decision, having previously seen an offer to Salford’s Paul Rowley rejected.
