Catalans Dragons’ Fitness Concerns for Jordan Abdull | Rugby League Updates

Rugby League News: Jordan Abdull Urged to Focus on Fitness for Catalans Dragons’ Success

Jordan Abdull’s return to action for the Catalans Dragons has been marred by concerns over his fitness, according to Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin. The half-back, who joined the French side on loan from Hull KR, has already missed several games this season due to a recurring hamstring injury.

Fitness a Priority for the Dragons

Wilkin emphasized that Abdull’s fitness must be a priority if the Dragons are to challenge for silverware this year. “When you’re so dependent upon a voice to lead your team around, you need him to be fit and physically prepared to go all the way through the year,” Wilkin stated.

The former St. Helens captain noted that Abdull’s skill set is exceptional, but it is the “physical preparation that needs to be polished up.” Over the past four seasons at Hull KR, the 28-year-old has struggled with injuries, playing more than 15 games only once.

Disruptions in the Dragons’ Spine

The constant changes in the Dragons’ spine have been a direct result of Abdull’s fitness issues. As Sky Sports analyst Jon Wells explained, the French club has had nine different combinations in their starting 1-6-7-9 positions in just 11 games this season.

Despite the disruptions, the Catalans Dragons have the opportunity to go top of the table with a win over the Leeds Rhinos. Wilkin believes the current spine combination is the best balance the team has had, but he emphasized that Abdull must take his physical preparation seriously to maintain his presence in the team.

The Need for Consistent Fitness

The call for Abdull to focus on his fitness echoes a common theme in the talented half-back’s recent career, as he has struggled to consistently complete a full season due to injury concerns.
