Castleford Tigers Secure Signing of Former Hull FC Player Tex Hoy
In a significant move, Castleford Tigers have announced the signing of Tex Hoy, the former Hull FC player, on a contract until the end of the current season. The Tigers have been actively seeking new signings in recent weeks, but a limited number of quota spots and a challenging transfer market have made it difficult to bring in fresh faces.
Hoy, a 24-year-old with experience in the NRL, having played 29 games for the Newcastle Knights between 2020 and 2022, has now joined the Tigers after being released from Hull FC last week. During his time with the Black and Whites, Hoy made 24 appearances, scoring 4 tries and kicking 3 goals.
Filling the Quota Spot
The signing of Hoy fills the quota spot at Castleford vacated by Albert Vete, who recently left the club by mutual consent. Director of Rugby Danny Wilson expressed his delight at securing Hoy’s services, stating, “We are always looking at improving the squad, and we feel Tex coming in does just that. He has some real quality and has a point to prove in the Super League. Bringing in Tex gives some healthy competition at fullback.”
Valuable Addition to the Squad
Head Coach Craig Lingard had previously acknowledged the difficulties in signing Hoy due to the lack of available quota spots, but the recent departure of Vete has now made this move possible. Lingard’s side will be hoping that Hoy’s versatility, as he can play in the halves or at fullback, will provide a valuable addition to their squad as they look to navigate the remainder of the Super League season.
This signing is seen as a significant boost for the Tigers, who have been searching for reinforcements to bolster their ranks and improve their position in the table.
