Castleford Tigers Secure Promising Youngster George Hill with Long-Term Contract Extension
Castleford, [Current Date] – In a move that strengthens their homegrown talent pipeline, the Castleford Tigers have secured the future of rising star George Hill by penning a three-year contract extension with the 19-year-old forward.
Hill, who has been with the Tigers’ academy and reserves since the age of 18, made his senior debut for the club back in April against the reigning champions, Wigan Warriors. Despite a 36-14 defeat on the night, the youngster’s impressive performance earned him a permanent spot in Craig Lingard’s first-team lineup.
Since his debut, Hill has continued to shine, making a total of four appearances for the Tigers and showcasing his potential as a valuable asset for the club. The new deal also includes an option for a fourth year, further solidifying Castleford’s commitment to developing Hill’s talents.
In the press release announcing the contract extension, Castleford’s chief Danny Wilson expressed his excitement about retaining the homegrown talent.
“It’s really exciting for the club and for George. I think everything that we talk about is developing our own young kids and our own talent and retaining them, and George has shown the fans and the coaches what he’s all about.”
Wilson highlighted Hill’s impressive debut against the champions, noting that the youngster “got an opportunity against the world champions (Wigan) that he took with both hands, so to tie him down long term is a big boost.” The chief also emphasized the importance of the club’s willingness to provide opportunities for young players, stating that “the head coach and the club’s willingness to play young kids all come hand in hand and everything is lined up for players to take their opportunities, and George has done that.”
This contract extension not only secures Hill’s future with the Tigers but also serves as a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing and retaining their homegrown talent. As Wilson pointed out, “it just proves to all the young kids that if you’re not getting a scholarship, it’s not the end of the world. There are other routes back into the system, and if you’ve got the right system, you can capture those late developers. George has certainly proven that.”
