Castleford Tigers Remain Tight-Lipped on Potential Jake Connor Loan
In a recent interview, Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard insisted the club has not engaged in any discussions about signing Jake Connor on loan from Huddersfield Giants. Lingard also revealed that the team is unsure about their remaining budget for potential signings, as they await a mid-season review with the club’s management.
Lingard’s comments come after Love Rugby League exclusively reported on Wednesday that Connor had been made available for loan by Huddersfield Giants, with head coach Ian Watson acknowledging the possibility during his pre-match media conference on Thursday.
Uncertainty Surrounding Roster Plans
While Castleford recently signed Matty English from the Giants, Lingard admitted he is uncertain about the club’s ability to bring in additional players. “We’ve not had any conversations about that, whether we’ve got the budget to do any more business, whether it’s Jake or anyone else I don’t know, we’ll have to have a meeting after I’ve done this today,” he stated.
The Castleford boss also acknowledged the challenges in the current UK rugby league market, suggesting the club may have to look beyond domestic options to strengthen their squad. “The market in the UK that the players off-contract for next season or that are available is really, really minimal,” Lingard explained. “As much as we’re saying we’re going to go out and bring some players in, we might have to look further afield and overseas because the market in the UK now is pretty much done and dusted.”
Lingard’s comments highlight the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Castleford’s roster plans, as they navigate the mid-season review and assess their options for potential signings, including the possibility of a loan deal for Jake Connor.
