Castleford Tigers Opt Against Further Signings Amid Roster Changes
Castleford Tigers’ head coach Craig Lingard has provided an update on the club’s recruitment plans, revealing that he does not anticipate making any additional signings for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Last week, the Tigers announced the release of back-rower Charbel Tasipale on compassionate grounds, allowing him to return to Australia. Tasipale’s departure has freed up a quota spot within the squad, but Lingard has admitted that the club is unlikely to fill that vacancy until the lead-up to the 2025 campaign.
“It’ll more likely be next season now. As much as we want to get people in now, particularly with Woody (Sam Wood) being out for the season and Josh Hodson being out and not knowing the time limit on that, I’d love to bring some people in this season but I don’t think the finances are there for us to do that this season.”
Meanwhile, Lingard expressed a desire to extend the loan agreement of Matty English, the Huddersfield Giants prop who has impressed during his two appearances for the Tigers so far. However, the coach acknowledged that the decision would ultimately rest with Huddersfield.
Furthermore, Lingard revealed that he would be open to the idea of sending promising young fullback Fletcher Rooney out on loan or dual-registration to gain valuable first-team experience, as the player has shown encouraging signs of progress in the reserve team following his recovery from an ankle injury earlier this year.
