Castleford Tigers Secure Papua New Guinea Star Liam Horne’s Contract Extension
Castleford Tigers have solidified their roster by retaining the services of Papua New Guinea international Liam Horne. The hooker, who joined the club midway through the previous season, has penned a new contract that will keep him at The Jungle until the end of the 2026 campaign.
Horne, 26, has been a standout performer for the Tigers this year, featuring in every game so far and playing a crucial role in the team’s quest for Super League survival last season. His impressive displays have also earned him international recognition, with the player earning two additional caps for the Kumuls in the inaugural Pacific Bowl tournament.
“We’re over the moon with Liam staying,” Wilson said. “He’s proved himself as a Super League player and he’s a fan favorite due to his personality, but on the field, what he delivers is exactly what we want our players to portray in terms of full commitment, hard work and being passionate.”
In an exclusive interview earlier this week, Castleford director Danny Wilson expressed the club’s confidence in retaining Horne, and the announcement of the new deal on Thursday night has validated that optimism. The Tigers have activated the one-year extension option in the player’s contract and have added an additional 12 months, securing his services for the next two seasons.
Horne, who scored a try in last week’s victory against Hull FC, has now tallied two tries in 19 appearances for the Fords. Commenting on the contract extension, Wilson praised the player’s commitment, hard work, and passion, stating that Horne’s performances embody the values the club looks for in its players.
The Castleford director went on to highlight Horne’s ability to reflect the community spirit of the town, emphasizing the importance of tying down a player of his caliber to the club’s long-term plans.
