Castleford Tigers Open to Loan Deal for Unsettled Playmaker Danny Richardson
Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard has revealed that the club is open to allowing key player Danny Richardson to depart on a temporary loan deal. Richardson, who joined the Tigers in 2019 from St Helens, has been an integral member of the squad, but has recently found himself out of the first-team picture, with new recruit Rowan Milnes preferred in the half-back role.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Lingard acknowledged that Richardson needs to be playing regular, first-team rugby. “Danny needs to play,” the Castleford boss stated. “If teams come in, then we’ll have that conversation if that’s beneficial to him.” The Tigers’ willingness to loan out Richardson is partly due to the recent return of Paul McShane, which provides additional cover in the half-back position.
With Richardson in the final year of his contract, Lingard emphasized the importance of the playmaker finding regular playing time to earn a new deal for the 2025 season. “Danny’s in his last year of his contract, so he knows where he is and he knows what he needs to do,” Lingard explained. “Whether that’s playing with us and earning a contract or playing somewhere else to put himself in the shop window, that’s down to him.“
The potential departure of Richardson could also open the door for Castleford to further strengthen their squad, as the Tigers have been actively seeking new signings to bolster their depleted roster. With Richardson’s future uncertain, the club appears willing to facilitate a loan move that could benefit both the player and the team.
