Castleford Tigers Struggle in Tough First Half of Super League Season
Castleford Tigers were expected to face a challenging 2024 Super League season, and those predictions have largely come to fruition in the opening months of the campaign. The Tigers have managed just three wins from their first nine games, with one draw, leaving them languishing in 10th place in the table, ahead of only London Broncos and Hull FC.
Struggles on the Pitch
In their most recent defeat against the Leeds Rhinos, Castleford appeared to lack the size and physicality in their forward pack, and without the creativity of Jacob Miller, they struggled to pose a significant attacking threat. To address one of these issues, the club has signed Matty English on an initial two-week loan deal from the Huddersfield Giants.
Potential Transfer Activity
With speculation surrounding the potential availability of Jake Connor on a short-term loan from the Giants, Castleford’s head coach, Lee Lingard, was asked about the club’s interest in the versatile player. Lingard, however, denied that Castleford had made any enquiries about Connor, stating that the club would need to assess their available budget before considering any further business.
“When players of the caliber of English and Connor become available, even on a temporary basis, the Tigers will inevitably be interested in exploring those opportunities.”
Lingard acknowledged the challenges in the current transfer market, reiterating his previous comments about the limited options for players off-contract for the upcoming season.
Upcoming Challenge
Castleford Tigers will host the Wigan Warriors tomorrow night in their first game since the Challenge Cup break. The Tigers will be hoping to capitalize on any potential post-victory fatigue from the Warriors and secure an unexpected win to kickstart their campaign.
