Bradford Bulls Secure Rising Talent Jacob Bateman with 2-Year Contract
In a significant move for the Bradford Bulls, the club has confirmed the signing of promising 18-year-old Jacob Bateman on a two-year professional contract. Bateman, who is the cousin of former Bradford player and current NRL star John Bateman, is the latest Academy graduate to join the Bulls’ senior ranks.
Club Updates and Future Plans
The announcement was made during a recent fan forum, where the club provided an update on their progress at the midway point of the season and looked ahead to the next campaign. Bradford’s decision to retain their young talent, rather than serve as a selling club, is a clear indication of their commitment to building a strong, long-term future.
Praise for Junior Pathway System
Head coach Eamon O’Carroll praised the work of the club’s junior pathway system, which has produced Bateman as one of the “stars of the future.” The 18-year-old second-rower made his debut for the Bulls back in May, facing off against Sheffield Eagles, and the club is incredibly excited about his potential.
“It’s brilliant and hopefully there’s many more to come, there is a young, exciting group coming through who are even younger than Jacob,” said O’Carroll, who is sponsored by M & S Combustion Ltd. “The staff including Ryan Hunkin, Glenn Morrison, Martyn Oxbury and Jonathan Schofield are doing a fantastic job with our younger players.”
Additional Signings
In addition to securing Bateman’s services, the Bulls have also announced the signing of former Huddersfield Giants prop Nathon Mason for the 2025 season, after a brief loan spell in 2023.
This news highlights Bradford’s commitment to nurturing and retaining their young talent, as they continue to build a solid foundation for the future of rugby league at Odsal.
