Rugby League Specialist: Championship side Bradford Bulls Secure Loan of Former NRL Star Jayden Okunbor from Hull FC
In a major coup, Championship club Bradford Bulls have secured the short-term loan of former NRL talent Jayden Okunbor from Super League side Hull FC. The 27-year-old had been struggling to cement his place in the Hull FC first team, featuring in the opening eight games of the Super League season before falling out of favor under coach Simon Grix.
Okunbor, who joined Hull FC as a high-profile pre-season signing, has been relegated to the club’s reserve side in recent weeks. However, the move to the Bulls provides him with an opportunity to regain form and confidence at the Championship level.
“We are pleased to be able to bring in someone with the experience of Jayden. After speaking to Jayden, he made his intentions clear that he wants to get back to playing his best rugby at a competitive level. I know our environment and the people in here will give him the best opportunity to get back to his best.”
- Eamon O’Carroll, Bradford Bulls head coach
The Australian-born Okunbor, who stands at an imposing 6ft 5in, has the versatility to feature in the centers, on the wing, or even in the back row. He came through the pathway system at the Canterbury Bulldogs before making his NRL debut in 2019.
The Bulls’ capture of Okunbor comes at a crucial time, as the club prepares for a pivotal 1895 Cup Final qualifier against Wakefield Trinity this weekend. While Okunbor will not be available for that match, the club has also secured the loan of another Hull FC player, winger Liam Tindall, to bolster their squad.
