Brad Arthur Frontrunner for Coaching Role with Perth’s NRL Franchise in 2027
According to leading Australian journalists, Brad Arthur has emerged as the favorite to secure the head coaching position for the incoming NRL franchise in Perth, set to make their return to the elite league in 2027 after over a quarter-century absence.
The reports suggest that Arthur, who has made a significant impact since taking charge at Leeds Rhinos, is “available” and open to taking on the role with the new Perth Bears franchise. NRL360’s James Hooper declared, “The man who wants the job is Brad Arthur, and he is available at the moment.”
Hooper believes Arthur’s proven track record in recruitment and his overall appeal to players make him an attractive candidate for the role. “He has proven in terms of recruitment he can go into the market, and he’s an attractive proposition to players. I’d have him as the favorite at the moment,” Hooper added.

The return of the Perth-based NRL franchise in 2027 is seen as a significant move, with NRL CEO Peter V’landys and Andrew Abdo keen to ensure the team is well-prepared and immediately competitive. Hooper drew comparisons to the Dolphins’ successful inclusion, with V’landys widely praised for bringing in the experienced Wayne Bennett to lead the new team.
Arthur himself has not shied away from the fact that he met with representatives from the potential Perth franchise and the Western Australia government prior to joining Leeds Rhinos on an initial short-term deal until the end of the season. While the Rhinos are hopeful of retaining Arthur’s services beyond this year, it appears that the lure of the NRL and the opportunity to lead the Perth Bears in 2027 may prove too enticing for the experienced coach.
