Australian Youngster Loghan Lewis Impresses on Salford Red Devils Debut
Until a few weeks ago, 21-year-old Australian prospect Loghan Lewis had never heard of Salford, but he has now made an impressive debut for the Red Devils and is ready to make a name for himself in Super League.
The young gun caught Salford’s eye from Down Under with his standout performances for Canberra Raiders’ second-string team in the New South Wales Cup. Just days after his signing was announced on May 29th, Lewis had touched down on English soil, penning a deal until the end of the 2024 season.
“With barely any time to get acquainted with his new teammates, the Australian made his first senior career appearance off the bench in Salford’s 25-14 victory over Warrington Wolves on Friday night.”
His debut helped Paul Rowley’s side move level on points with 4th-placed Warrington, just four points off the Super League table summit.
Speaking exclusively to LoveRugbyLeague, Lewis detailed the whirlwind few weeks that led to his move to Super League. The young gun explained how the call came through mid-week about Salford’s interest, and he quickly accepted the opportunity, despite admitting he didn’t know much about the club prior.
Once arriving in the UK, Lewis was quickly integrated into the tight-knit Salford squad, with the Aussie contingent helping him settle in. And it didn’t take long for the 21-year-old to make an impact on the field, with his break leading to a try assist for Marc Sneyd within minutes of coming on against Warrington.
While the youngster is not looking too far ahead, Salford will no doubt be hoping for more of the same from their new recruit, who they have the option to extend until the end of the 2025 season.
