Leeds Rhinos Icon Adam Cuthbertson Lands First Head Coaching Role in Australia’s Mackay Cutters

Adam Cuthbertson, a modern-day great during his six-season stint with the Leeds Rhinos in the UK, has secured his first head coaching role in the men’s game. The former Rhinos forward has been appointed as the new head coach of the prominent Australian side, the Mackay Cutters, for their 2025 Queensland Cup campaign.

Cuthbertson’s playing career with the Leeds Rhinos was marked by considerable success, including helping the club win the treble in his debut season in 2015. He went on to make well over 150 appearances for the Rhinos before finishing his playing days in England with York and Featherstone. The rugby league veteran also served as the head coach of the Rhinos’ women’s side.

“I’m honoured to take on the role as head coach of this club. The Mackay region has a proud rugby league history, known for producing great talent and has a strong connection to the sport. My goal is to build on that legacy by developing a squad that competes at the highest level and reflects the values and spirit of our community.”

In 2023, Cuthbertson returned to his native Australia to join the backroom team at Mackay, and he has now been entrusted with the role of head coach. Speaking about his new position, the former Rhinos icon expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity.

The Cutters squad already includes a familiar face to Super League fans, with former Hull FC and Castleford Tigers player Mahe Fonua featuring for the club this season. Now, they have another well-known name in the form of former Leeds Rhinos forward Adam Cuthbertson, who will be looking to make his mark as a head coach in the Australian rugby league scene.
