NRL Club Targets Leeds Rhinos Star Brodie Croft Amid Struggles
Reports from Australia suggest that Gold Coast Titans are eyeing a move for Leeds Rhinos playmaker Brodie Croft, who has been touted as a potential “saviour” for the NRL struggler. Croft, who joined the Rhinos ahead of the 2024 season, has already emerged as a recruitment target for Titans coach Des Hasler, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The Telegraph report indicates that Hasler has been impressed by Croft’s performances and is considering a move for the 26-year-old half-back, potentially for the 2025 season. This would require a significant financial compensation to Leeds, given that Croft signed a lengthy deal when he joined the Headingley club.
Croft’s agent, Chris Orr, has acknowledged the player’s “NRL aspirations” and the availability of NRL options in his contract every year. Orr praised Croft’s resurgence in the Super League, where he has regained his running game and been touted as one of the competition’s most dangerous players.
The potential move raises questions about Leeds’ willingness to part ways with Croft, especially considering the investment they made to secure him and Andy Ackers from Salford, which CEO Gary Hetherington described as the “biggest investment in one go” since signing Iestyn Harris over 20 years ago.
Leeds’ struggles in the 2023 Super League season, with only four wins so far, have added to the intrigue surrounding Croft’s future. The Rhinos will face a crucial test against Huddersfield Giants on Friday, where a win could propel them into the top six.
The decision to retain or sell Croft will ultimately depend on the Rhinos’ assessment of the potential return on investment and their ability to find a suitable replacement. As the NRL club’s interest continues to grow, the future of the talented half-back at Leeds remains uncertain.
