Super League Poised for Lewis Murphy’s Homecoming in 2025
After a brief stint with the Sydney Roosters, versatile winger Lewis Murphy is set to make a return to the Super League in 2025. According to sources, the St Helens club is on the brink of securing a deal to bring the talented playmaker back to the UK.
As St Helens look to rebuild following a disappointing 2024 campaign, the team is actively seeking to bolster their backline. With the departures of experienced names like Tommy Makinson and Lewis Dodd, as well as uncertainties surrounding Konrad Hurrell and Waqa Blake’s futures, the Saints have identified Murphy as a prime target.
The 23-year-old winger has been limited to just seven appearances for the Roosters’ New South Wales Cup side in 2024 and is yet to make his NRL debut. However, the Roosters are believed to be open to allowing Murphy to explore other opportunities, paving the way for his return to Super League next season.
Murphy’s rise to prominence came during his sensational 2022 season with Wakefield, where he scored 19 tries in 21 appearances. Unfortunately, a serious ACL injury just three games into the 2023 season cut his time at Trinity short, leading him to join the Roosters for the 2024 campaign.
The Saints’ acquisition of Murphy would be the second winger signing for the club in the space of a week. North Queensland Cowboys icon Kyle Feldt has already agreed a two-year deal to link up with Paul Wellens’ side in 2025, and it appears Murphy is set to join him in the revamped St Helens backline.
The Saints are also believed to be in the market for additional acquisitions to bolster their squad further, as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season and reclaim their position as a dominant force in the Super League.
