Rugby League Resilience: Hull KR Overcome Leopards in Challenge Cup Triumph
In a display of unwavering resilience, Hull KR has emerged victorious in their Challenge Cup clash against the Leigh Leopards, securing a 26-14 win and a spot in the semi-finals. The victory comes as a sweet redemption for the team, who suffered a heart-wrenching defeat against the Leopards in last year’s Challenge Cup final.
Speaking after the match, Hull KR boss Willie Peters refused to get carried away, acknowledging that there is still a long way to go. “We’re certainly not getting carried away. We know that we’ve got a long way to go, but we’re certainly heading in the right direction and if we stay hungry, hopefully good things will happen off the back of it,” he said.
Peters emphasized the valuable lessons the team learned from last year’s Wembley disappointment, stating, “I think you learn a lot from experiences. We learned a lot from that Challenge Cup and when we played League two weeks later and then again in the semi, I thought we executed probably what we didn’t do so well.”
Mikey Lewis, the team’s half-back, echoed the sentiment of redemption, describing the victory as “an unbelievable moment” for both the players and the fans. “We don’t want to dwell on last year but it gives us a taste of it. We didn’t really speak about it all week because we just wanted to do a revenge on them. We’ve done that today so we’re really happy,” he said.
Hull KR’s impressive start to the Super League season, with five wins and two losses, has propelled them to the fourth position in the league, just two points behind the leading Catalans Dragons. Peters emphasized the importance of each game in the tight-knit competition, stating, “What makes our competition so special now is how tight it is. It’s every game you play. We’ve got a tough game against Catalans next week, and it’ll be similar to that.”
As Hull KR gears up for a thrilling match against the Catalans Dragons next weekend, the team’s resilience, determination, and preparation will undoubtedly make for an unforgettable encounter, with both sides vying for the top spot in the league.
