Salford Red Devils’ New Fan Favorite: Loghan ‘The Hitman’ Lewis Quickly Becomes a Hit in Super League
When Loghan Lewis first arrived in Super League, he was a relatively unknown quantity. However, the Australian forward has rapidly emerged as a fan favorite at Salford Red Devils.
Lewis joined the Red Devils mid-season in May, penning a deal that included a club option to extend his stay through 2025. Despite making just nine appearances so far, the 21-year-old has become an instant hit with Salford supporters, thanks to his impressive work rate and no-nonsense approach on the field.
“The Hitman, that’s his nickname,” explains Red Devils assistant coach Krisnan Inu. “Look him up on YouTube, you’ll see him on there! He’s a character, he’s a maniac, he has no care for his body. Like all tough football players, they go out there and do everything they can for the jersey and they play nothing but 100 miles per hour: and that’s Loghan.”
Lewis’ post-match ritual of banging the drum with the Salford faithful has further endeared him to the club’s passionate supporters. “He wasn’t used to big crowds and vocal crowds but when you play at our home, our supporters are second to none, they are awesome, so to go and bang the drum with them… They’re all over you,” adds Inu.
Inu himself is also thriving in his role as assistant coach, having signed a new five-year contract in July. Working alongside head coach Paul Rowley and fellow assistant Kurt Haggerty, Inu is enjoying the transition from player to coach, crediting the coaching staff and the responsive Salford squad for making his new position a seamless and rewarding experience.
