Wigan Warriors Receive Timely Boost as Star Player Bevan French Set to Make Return From Injury
Wigan Warriors have been handed a major boost ahead of their clash with the Catalans Dragons this weekend, as head coach Matt Peet has confirmed that star player Bevan French will make his return from injury.
French, who last featured for the Warriors in their victory over the Leigh Leopards on July 5, tore his hamstring in training the following week, leading to an eight-week timeline for his recovery. However, the talented playmaker has recovered slightly ahead of schedule and has been named in Peet’s 21-man squad for the trip to Perpignan.
“First of all, he’ll play,” Peet stated. “He’s been excellent, and when I say from day one, I mean almost from the hour after he got the injury in the run up to that St Helens game. We had a really positive conversation and spoke about how he could look after himself during this period so he could hit the ground running at the back end of the year.”
The 28-year-old is unlikely to feature for the full 80 minutes, as Peet looks to manage his reintegration to full match fitness. “We have to be smart, but I won’t go into detail about the ins and outs,” the Warriors coach added.
Crucial Run-in for Wigan Warriors
Despite winning five of the eight games they’ve played in French’s absence, the return of the star player will undoubtedly provide a timely boost for Wigan as they look to cement their place at the top of the Super League table. Currently level on competition points with Hull KR, the Warriors face a crucial run-in, including matches against the Rhinos and Salford Red Devils.
