Rugby League Regular Season Enters Final Stretch with Plenty to Play For
With just four rounds remaining in the 2024 Super League season, the majority of clubs still have plenty to play for as the campaign reaches its climactic conclusion.
Castleford Tigers, sitting 10th, have little to worry about in terms of their league position, with their best and worst-case scenarios differing only slightly. Coach Craig Lingard will use this period to blood young talent and identify areas in need of reinforcement for 2025.
Sixth-placed Catalans Dragons, however, are clinging to their play-off spot and desperately need wins to secure a top-four finish and a chance at a third Old Trafford appearance in four years.
Huddersfield Giants, in 9th, are also assured of a mid-table finish, but interim boss Luke Robinson will be eager to impress and stake his claim for the permanent head coach role.
At the other end of the table, 11th-placed Hull FC are engaged in a scrap to avoid the ignominy of finishing bottom, level on points with the struggling London Broncos, who are destined for relegation.
In contrast, leaders Hull KR are on the brink of ending a 39-year wait for a major honor, with the League Leaders’ Shield firmly in their sights. Two home wins from their final four fixtures would secure a valuable home semi-final in the play-offs.
Leeds Rhinos, currently 8th, still have an opportunity to sneak into the top six, while 7th-placed Leigh Leopards will be targeting a play-off spot, having let a late lead slip against Castleford earlier in the season.
Salford Red Devils, in 4th, and 5th-placed St Helens both have work to do to cement their play-off places, with the latter facing a tough run-in against two of the current top three.
Third-placed Warrington Wolves and second-placed Wigan Warriors, meanwhile, are embroiled in a battle for the coveted League Leaders’ Shield, with both sides confident of securing a home semi-final berth.
