Experienced Wigan Warriors Coach Matt Peet Reflects on Dominant Victory Over Leigh Leopards
In his post-match press conference following Wigan Warriors’ 28-6 triumph over Leigh Leopards, head coach Matt Peet shared his insights on several key talking points from the game.
Peet was full of praise for his side’s energetic start, acknowledging the challenge posed by the in-form Leigh team.
“I thought the energy at the start of the game would pay off either way because, with the short turnarounds, I think either team would struggle to come back from a deficit, or even come back from being behind in an energy battle.”
The Warriors’ strong completion rate in the first half was a crucial factor in their dominant performance.
The coach was delighted with the display of young back-rower Junior Nsemba, who continues to impress in his breakout season.
“He’s playing well, he’s a physical handful and he’s learning all the time. He deserved that try, it just opened up for him and I’m pleased he had the confidence to take it.”
Peet refrained from speculating on Nsemba’s potential England call-up, instead urging him to maintain his focus on developing his game.
Peet was particularly impressed with the performance of hooker Kruise Leeming, who he believes delivered his best display in a Wigan shirt.
“It definitely was. I agree that he was man of the match and I know he had some nice moments with the ball but I just thought his work rate in defence and his commitment to that side of the game and his effort was outstanding.”
With the Warriors returning to the top of the Super League table, Peet acknowledged the physical toll on his players and the need to carefully manage their recovery ahead of the upcoming fixture against Leeds Rhinos.
“They are heading off to cryotherapy now and they’ll be in tomorrow morning to take up more procedures and protocol so hopefully we’ll get them in the best possible shape for the weekend.”
