Warrington Wolves Injury Update: Positive News on Key Players

Rugby League News: Warrington Wolves Provide Positive Injury Update on Key Players

Following a narrow defeat against Hull KR on Friday night, Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess delivered an upbeat injury update on three key players – Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Toby King, and Joe Philbin.

All three were initially named in Burgess’ 21-man squad for the Round 20 clash against KR but were ultimately omitted from the final team sheet. Despite the 22-4 loss at home, the Wire missed out on a chance to reclaim the top spot in the Super League table.

In the post-match interview, Burgess provided some positive news on the injury front. Australian ace Fitzgibbon had been struggling with a back injury leading up to the Challenge Cup final defeat against Wigan Warriors in early June. He returned to action in their 48-0 win over Huddersfield Giants on July 5 but was forced off with a shoulder problem and has been sidelined since.

“Fitzy’s the only one where I might give him another week, but the other boys will play next week.”

Centre Toby King, who scored a try in the same game against Huddersfield, was also withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Joe Philbin’s absence dates back even further, as he underwent surgery on an adductor injury sustained during the 16-8 win over Catalans Dragons on May 25.

However, Burgess suggested that all three players could have featured against Hull KR. When asked about their availability for the Round 21 clash against London Broncos next Sunday, the Wolves boss responded:

“Fitzy’s the only one where I might give him another week, but the other boys will play next week.”

Burgess also confirmed that no new injury concerns had been picked up following the defeat to KR, stating: “No, just a couple of bruised egos!”
