Warrington Wolves Boss Accidentally Confirms Young Star’s NRL Move
In a surprising turn of events, Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess has officially confirmed that promising youngster Matty Nicholson will be departing the club at the end of the season to join NRL outfit Canberra Raiders.
The 20-year-old second-rower, who has made over 50 senior appearances in the British game, has been widely reported to be making the move Down Under throughout the year. Nicholson’s departure was accidentally revealed by Burgess during a post-match interview with Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks, despite the switch not being officially confirmed yet.
Burgess acknowledged Nicholson’s ambition, stating, “He’s an ambitious young man and I’d love him to stay, but I’m not sure that’s the case.” The Warrington boss also revealed that Nicholson is contracted with the club until 2025, meaning the Wolves will receive a transfer fee from Canberra Raiders for the promising prospect.
