Hull FC Half-Back Search: Options & Challenges Revealed | Rugby League News

Rugby League Notebook: Hull FC Seek Half-Back Replacement as Grix Admits Difficulties

Hull FC are in the market for a new half-back after the departure of Ben Reynolds, but interim head coach Simon Grix revealed this week that the club has so far failed to secure a replacement for their upcoming derby clash against Hull KR.

Grix acknowledged the challenges they face, stating:

“Unfortunately, we’re in a position where other teams don’t want to help us or can’t. I’d hope it’s more that they can’t help us. Everyone is going through their own stuff and issues with injuries and so on and so forth, so it’s difficult for other teams to let them out.”

However, there are several potential half-back options available, either seeking regular playing time or potentially open to a move in the coming weeks. Hull FC could potentially make a move for any of the following players:

Jake Connor

The obvious choice would be a return to Hull FC for Connor, who has been made available for loan by Huddersfield. While this would certainly divide opinion, Connor’s quality could prove to be an improvement for the club.

Danny Richardson

This one is complicated, as Richardson is currently on loan at Hull KR, but has only made one appearance since joining in May. If regular game time is not forthcoming at Rovers, Hull FC could potentially request to take over the loan deal from Castleford.

Jack Farrimond

The Wigan youngster has been playing in the first team, but with Jai Field’s imminent return, Farrimond may find himself back in the reserves. A loan move to Hull FC could benefit both parties, allowing Farrimond to continue his development at the Super League level.

Jack Sinfield

The Leeds half-back has had to wait patiently for his opportunity, and several clubs would likely be interested in his services. However, Leeds’ willingness to let him go remains to be seen, especially with the impending arrival of Brad Arthur.

Cade Cust

The Australian half-back is set to join Hull FC in 2025, but the club could potentially look to bring that deal forward, with the player currently recovering from a calf injury.

As Hull FC navigate the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for Ben Reynolds, these five half-back options could potentially emerge as viable targets for the club in the coming weeks.
