Discipline Proves Pivotal in Super League’s Tightly Contested Landscape
As the gulf between the top Super League sides continues to narrow, the disciplinary records of each team have become a crucial factor in determining match outcomes. Love Rugby League has delved into the numbers to rank the clubs based on their disciplinary performances this season.
Penalties Conceded
At the top of the penalties conceded chart sit the reigning champions, the Wigan Warriors, who have racked up an average of 7.7 penalties per game across their 15 fixtures. In stark contrast, their Challenge Cup final opponents, the Warrington Wolves, boast the best disciplinary record, conceding just 4.2 penalties per game in their 16 league matches.
Red Cards Conceded
It has been a challenging year for Hull FC, who find themselves leading the way in red cards with three dismissals so far. Meanwhile, Wigan Warriors have received just two red cards this campaign. Impressively, five clubs are yet to see a single player sent off.
Yellow Cards Conceded
The Leigh Leopards have the unwelcome distinction of collecting the most yellow cards, with 11 cautions to their name. Salford Red Devils and Hull FC follow closely behind with 9 and 10 yellow cards, respectively. Castleford Tigers, on the other hand, were the only side to avoid a yellow card until round 14.
“As the race for Super League glory intensifies, the disciplinary records of these teams will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in determining the eventual outcome. Maintaining composure and minimizing infractions could very well be the difference between success and disappointment.”
