Wigan Warriors’ Squad Contracts Analyzed Ahead of 2024 Season
As the summer transfer window approaches, the contract statuses of Wigan Warriors’ first-team players have come under scrutiny. The reigning Super League champions have a diverse range of contract lengths within their squad, stretching from the end of this year to the end of the next decade.
Four members of Wigan’s squad are set to be free agents at the conclusion of the 2023 season, including forward Willie Isa, who appears destined to depart the club. The futures of prop Mike Cooper and utility back Ryan Hampshire also remain uncertain beyond this campaign.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Warriors have several key players coming off-contract, such as center Adam Keighran, long-serving trio Liam Byrne, Liam Marshall, and captain Liam Farrell, as well as Sam Eseh, who has an option for 2026 in his deal.
“The club has secured the long-term futures of several players, with forwards Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago, and recent arrival Tyler Dupree all penning contracts until the end of 2026. Off-season recruits Sam Walters and Tiaki Chan have also joined on deals of the same length.”
Wigan have demonstrated their commitment to retaining their brightest young British talent, with the likes of Jai Field, Harry Smith, Abbas Miski, and Ethan Havard all signing long-term contracts until 2027. Experienced duo Luke Thompson and Kruise Leeming arrived from the NRL on four-year deals this season.
The standout long-term deals belong to half-back Bevan French and center Jake Wardle, who have committed their futures to the Warriors until the end of 2028 and 2029, respectively.
