Catalans Dragons Secure Playmaker Cesar Rougé’s Services for Two More Years
In a significant move, the Super League side Catalans Dragons have confirmed the extended contract of their highly-regarded playmaker Cesar Rougé. The 21-year-old, who had been one of the most sought-after off-contract players in the league, has now signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until at least 2026.
Rougé, who joined the Dragons from fellow French outfit Limoux in 2020, has been a revelation in the Super League this season, showcasing his impressive talent and potential. Despite a brief loan spell with Hull KR last year that didn’t go as planned, the young half-back has truly come into his own in 2023, establishing himself as a key member of the Dragons’ squad.
“I am very happy to extend my stay for two more seasons here in Perpignan. It is now up to me to secure my place in this group and help the team to achieve victories. I will continue to give my best in training and on the field. I would like to thank everyone who is renewing their trust in me.”
The sentiment was echoed by Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who praised Rougé’s professionalism, maturity, and desire to improve.
“Cesar has shown professionalism and maturity beyond his age. His desire to improve every day is there to see. We are very happy he has committed his immediate future to our club,” said McNamara.
This news comes as the club continues to navigate the potential arrival of Luke Keary from the Sydney Roosters, a move that is still in flux. Nonetheless, the Catalans will be pleased to have secured the services of a talented young half-back in Rougé, who can also play in a variety of other positions, including fullback and hooker.
With Rougé’s versatility and impressive performances, the Catalans have solidified their playmaking options for the coming seasons, while other Super League sides will have to look elsewhere in their search for a promising young half-back.
