Leeds Rhinos Announce Funeral Plans for Club Legend Rob Burrow
Leeds, UK – In a touching tribute to their beloved club icon, Leeds Rhinos have shared the confirmed details for the funeral of Rob Burrow, who sadly passed away on July 2nd at the age of 41 after a courageous four-and-a-half-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
The private funeral service will take place on Sunday, July 7th – the day the Rhinos annually celebrate “Rob Burrow Day” in honor of his iconic number 7 jersey. The service will be held at Pontefract Crematorium, with attendance limited to invited guests only. However, the club has published Burrow’s final journey route, allowing members of the public to pay their respects along the procession.
The cortege will travel a set route, starting from the A656 (Park Road) past the Xscape leisure complex, continuing along the A639 towards Pontefract Racecourse, then turning onto Park Lane (B6134) near Pontefract Tanshelf train station. The procession will proceed through Ackton and Featherstone, where it will pass the Featherstone Lions ARLFC ground on Wakefield Road (A645), before reaching the crematorium. The public is asked to observe the cortege at these designated locations, but to allow the Burrow family privacy as the cars approach the crematorium.
In addition to the funeral, Leeds City Council and the Lord Mayor of Leeds will host an invitation-only civic reception on July 12th at 11 am to further honor Burrow’s legacy. This event will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
The Burrow family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND or directly to support Rob’s family.
The rugby league community has been deeply saddened by the passing of this beloved figure, but the detailed funeral arrangements allow fans to pay their final respects to the iconic Leeds Rhinos legend.
