Hull FC Showing Signs of Resurgence Amid Challenging 2024 Super League Campaign
Hull FC have endured a difficult start to the 2024 Betfred Super League season, securing just two victories from their opening 15 games. However, in recent weeks, the club has displayed promising signs of recovery.
Two weeks ago, the team secured a crucial home win over the Leeds Rhinos, with several homegrown players delivering strong performances and breaking into the starting lineup. Although the club suffered a narrow defeat against Warrington at the weekend, they pushed the Wire until the final minute, only succumbing to a heartbreaking last-gasp try.
Amidst this upturn in form, Hull FC have announced that young hooker Denive Balmforth has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the MKM Stadium through the 2025 season. Balmforth, who spent the 2023 campaign on loan at Newcastle Thunder, has been instrumental in the team’s recent resurgence, scoring tries in their last two matches.
“It’s a really exciting time to be involved with the club, with plenty of new faces coming in and some really exciting young players committing their future here – so when contract talks started, it was a no-brainer for me to sign,” Balmforth said.
The club’s Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, praised Balmforth’s hard work and determination, stating that the new deal is a well-deserved reward for the young hooker’s performances on the training pitch and in the first-team this season.
With new head coach John Cartwright set to take over the reins in 2025, the retention of homegrown talents like Balmforth could be a crucial step in Hull FC’s efforts to turn their fortunes around and establish themselves as contenders in the Betfred Super League.
