Former Huddersfield Giants Prodigy Set for NRL Debut with Newcastle Knights
Eagerly Awaited Debut for Young Playmaker
Former Huddersfield Giants prodigy, Will Pryce, the son of legendary England and Great Britain star Leon Pryce, is finally set to make his long-awaited NRL debut for the Newcastle Knights this weekend. The 21-year-old, who burst onto the scene with the Giants in 2021 and has since represented the England Knights, has been anxiously awaiting his first top-flight appearance in the NRL Premiership after spending the early part of the 2024 season playing in the reserve-grade NSW Cup.
Concerns over Adaptation Addressed
Despite Pryce’s impressive form in the NSW Cup, where he has scored six tries and established himself as the side’s kicker of choice, Knights head coach Adam O’Brien has been hesitant to hand the young half-back his NRL debut, citing concerns over his adaptation to the Australian game. However, it appears O’Brien has had a change of heart following a recent run of three consecutive defeats for the Knights, most recently against the formidable Penrith Panthers.
High Expectations for Pryce’s NRL Debut
In a move that is sure to excite rugby league enthusiasts, The Mole has reported that Pryce is set to partner former Salford and Wigan star Jackson Hastings in the halves when the Knights take on the Parramatta Eels this weekend. The team announcement has since confirmed Pryce’s inclusion, with the club stating that the young Englishman is poised to become Knight #351.
“The decision to finally give Pryce his NRL debut comes after legendary NRL fullback Andrew Johns recently called on O’Brien to provide the youngster with an opportunity, following underwhelming performances from the likes of Jack Cogger and Jackson Hastings. While O’Brien initially resisted the calls, citing Pryce’s ongoing development, it appears the time has now come for the former Huddersfield man to showcase his talents on the biggest stage.”
